Team Ninja Working on Three New Action Games

Global titles to be announced at Tokyo Game Show

US, September 3, 2008 - Team Ninja may have lost Tomonobu Itagaki, but it's still cranking away at the games. In fact, the studio is gearing up to show three new titles at next month's Tokyo Game Show.

Tecmo president Yasuharu Kakihara revealed this little bit at a press conference in Tokyo today in which Tecmo introduced its upcoming lineup for the year.

Opening up the conference, Kakihara said that Team Ninja, now working under Jin Hasegawa since July 1, is working on three action games targeting the worldwide market. These will be formally unveiled at TGS.

Platforms were not announced for these projects, but with the bold and unbound Itagaki as the voice of the team, many of Team Ninja's work-in-progress titles were spoken of in codename form before his departure-- it is unknown what the status of "Dead or Alive: Code Cronus" or "Project Progressive" is, but either title might be amongst those unveiled at TGS. In the past few years, the team has focused on the Xbox 360, but the Ninja Gaiden series has also spun off onto the PlayStation 3 (in the form of a port of NG1) and Nintendo DS (Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword) and these titles could be spread across any of these three platforms or beyond.

Kakihara did not share specifics beyond this general announcement. TGS just a month away, though, so the wait for more details won't be too long.
